The Final Challenge?
With the rising cost of insurance it is becoming prohibitively expensive to include competitive events in our liability cover. Continued reliance on a policy that covers these events will exhaust our funds very quickly.
In order to survive, OzHPV is considering insurance which will exclude any competitive events.
If there is support for future Challenges they will need to be self-funding with event-specific policies to cover any risks.
For the Challenge to continue, someone will have to step up and ensure it can be financially viable.
The Challenge Purpose
The challenge has always aimed to test riders and human powered vehicles in a broad range of events to work out the best overall and races have included time trials, 1 hour circuit races, off road races, criterium races, twin slalom and shopping race with the overall winners the best in the whole range of events.
2026 Challenge info
The Challenge event started in Canberra, and it predates OzHPV.
The Open trophy dates from 1990 when the challenge was part of the Canberra Pedal Power bike week.
OzHpv was founded to spread the load of organising the challenge and to spread HPV activities in Australia.
