e-bikes

What are e-bikes?

E-bikes (electric bikes) are bicycles with a built-in electric motor and battery that assist the rider’s pedaling, making it easier to go further, faster, or uphill with less effort.

They function like traditional bikes but offer an electric boost, providing the joy of cycling with reduced physical strain, ideal for commuting, recreation, or longer distances.

Electric-assisted pedal vehicles have revolutionised the ability of less able people to get around, making hills easier, trips longer, and less taxing while still exercising the muscles.
As such, they have been instrumental in more people becoming physically active and enhancing/enjoying their lives.

Are e-bikes HPVs?

Vehicles which do not rely on human power as the primary source of motion are not HPVs.

OzHPV only supports primarily pedal-assisted machines where a motor helps each pedal stroke, without a throttle for non-pedaling power, with assistance cutting off below 30 km/h

NB: each state and territory may have different requirements.

It is the individual’s responsibility to make sure they are compliant to their state or territory requirements.
OzHPV make no warranty and or statement about the requirements of each state.
